THE NEVERMETS
Senior Producer / Director
Channel 4 | 6 × 60’ | 2023–2024
A Channel 4 documentary series exploring long-distance relationships that begin online - and what happens when couples meet in real life for the very first time.
The Nevermets follows couples who have built deep emotional connections across continents without ever having met face-to-face. Over the course of the series, we document the moment those digital relationships collide with reality, as couples step into each other’s worlds and attempt to merge lives shaped by distance, culture, and expectation.
Filming took place across the UK, Europe, Asia, and the United States, often with small, self-shooting teams made up of a producer/director and assistant producer. By embedding ourselves in contributors’ lives for many months before filming, we were able to build genuine trust - allowing moments to unfold naturally rather than feeling staged or performative.
This light-footprint approach was key to capturing the emotional complexity of these relationships. For pivotal moments, particularly first meetings, we carefully expanded the setup, introducing additional cameras and drone coverage while maintaining distance through long lenses and pre-planned camera positions. This ensured the intimacy of the experience was protected, even at its most emotionally charged.
Over the course of eighteen months, we followed these couples through anticipation, doubt, joy, and confrontation, documenting relationships that had already felt real long before the cameras arrived, and discovering whether love forged online could survive life offline.
